Launches boost women's weeklies

The women’s weeklies sector has risen by 10.5 per cent selling some 860,000 copies per week more than 2004.

New launches from Emap and IPC both performed well with Emap's Grazia reporting a debut circulation of 155,157 to surpass expectations and give Emap cause for celebration.

IPC's newest women's weekly, Pick Me Up, also performed well, debuting with a circulation of 503,950 after its launch in January, backed by the UK's largest ever sampling exercise.

More established titles such as Emap's Closer were among the sector's success stories, as the title bucked the trend for decline and added 12.5% to its circulation year on year. The magazine's total sales now number 540,044, up by almost 60,000 in real terms year on year.

Well-known titles such as Heat continued to see rising circulation, with a growth of 3.7per cent with IPC’s Now rising by 2 per cent year on year to 591,795.and Hello! grew by 8.7 per cent to 361,225.
